Monologue: Not Enough Trauma

“People are hurting over worse? waking up to loud continuous bangs in my head isn’t bad enough?. Losing papers isn’t hard enough?, Going to work for an abusive boss is not that difficult?. When can I complain?, when should I say I have had enough?. When should I walk away?.” “Those are little things?”. “It’s the little things that shred you. It’s the little things that makes you scream in your pillow. Not too loud though because people have it worse. Okay, I’ll be grateful and quiet because it could have been worse. I’ll pack it up in a box and hope I don’t explode. I won’t complain my trauma isn’t enough for you.”

This piece describes situations where one’s problem are minimized or told isn’t worth feeling down over. It’s a monologue, the speaker is responding to a statement that reduces her situation and feelings. The speaker is deeply hurt and confused, later feeling a lot of anger when explaining why they are hurt, then ends the monologue with acceptance.

This piece gives an insight into people thinking they shouldn’t be hurt by a situation because it’s not that bad.
